torque tube removal

Model: 924, Year:1981, Mileage:135000, Type of use:Street use only
I am trying to replace the clutch and have followed the steps in the Haynes 924 Manual. I can not get the torque tube separated from the bell housing. After failing to get it separated, I then removed all of the bolts holding the bell housing-still no movement. The transaxle is totalling free and is supported by a floor jack but this is of no help even when trying to pull it back. Is there something else that needs to be released that is accessed thru the inspection plate or something else that I need to do?
