Update on Air Flow Meter

Engine

Model: Carrera, Year:1987, Mileage:124000, Type of use:Street use only
I removed the air flow meter and opened up the sealed cover. I inspected the pot with the arm that arcs across it and did not see any wear. I put a small amount of contact cleaner on a q-tip and rubbed across the pot. I had seen a bit on utube where someone showed how to inspect and relocated a worn pot. I hope I did not do any damage by using the contact cleaner. Sealed the cover with silicone and reinstalled. Same problems as before only seems to be worse as the car stalls out every 5-10 seconds while idling cold. Once the car warms up, this mostly goes away but not completely. Could this be an indication of a bad air flow meter?
