Upper ball joints

Suspension

Vehicle Information: Year: 1986; Engine (size, modifications): (original); Total Mileage: 175000+; Transmission type: Autotomatic;

I've been driving the car for a year and worn off the inside of the tires down to the wire. I have checked the upper ball joints and confirmed that they are bad. I can move the top of the wheel in and out probably about 1/4 of an inch with a good tug. I have found out that the upper ball joints are made into the upper A frame. Different places have quoted me the cost for a replacement A frame including the ball joint to be near $500. Could the wear on the inside of the tires be due solely to bad upper ball joints? Should I consider replacing the springs while I've got this thing apart?And is there any place to get rebuilt or cheaper ball joints?
