Vin number for windshield 1998 vs 1999

Vehicle Information: Model: carrera; Year: 1999; Body Type: Coupe; Total Mileage: 69995;

I have to replace the windshield and when the body shop enters the Vin number it comes up as a 1998. The maintenance book shows the number with a 98 as the last two digits while the owners manual shows the number with a 99 as the last two digits. The difference in cost of a new windshield is over $600 if it is a 1998 vs. if it is a 1999. What's the deal?
